WHAT IS TEACHER APPRECIATION NIGHT - For those of you that don't know what Teacher Appreciation Night is all about - the players/managers select a teacher/administrator then write a personal note to the teacher and included in the note will be a gift certificate to free food/beverage at the MIA concession stand. They are given to the teacher right before school in the morning on the 15th along with a Regent away jersey which the teacher or administrator proudly wears all day at school (and can I just tell you how proudly it was done last year - there are lots of stories about this). The Teacher or administrator attends the game and Chris and Natalie Paskus takes photos of the teacher and the skater creating a lasting memory for both the teacher and the skater.
Last year, there was a few overlaps in selection. Based on feedback, I'd really recommend that each player and manager have a different person. There are so many that give so much at our high school and this quickly became a special event. It would be great for 24 deserving people get the recognition they deserve.
Sarah Morgan will coordinate being at the practice on the 14th and getting the notecards done, getting the jerseys handed out and collecting a brief written description from your player of why they chose their teacher/administrator that will then be used for the introductions when the teachers are introduced and escorted out onto the ice with their player in between periods.
Each teacher will also receive a "basket" of appreciation. This year's basket will include an apple (for the tradition of teaching), a loaf of homemade pumpkin bread to warm them after a cold game of hockey, candy to sweeten their day, a puck (with West Regent Hockey 2012-2013 logo on it) to use as a paperweight to remind them how special they are, and a light bulb (for all their great ideas and inspiration).
